Sharp donates to charity: water to celebrate Skywell launch
To celebrate the official launch of Skywell, the atmospheric water generator, Sharp Europe has donated £7,500 to charity: water to fund a clean water project. Sharp’s donation will pay for a hand pump to be built by local people in a community in Ethiopia, creating a new source of safe water.
Sharp’s donation to fund a water source for a whole community in Ethiopia
Globally, 1 in 10 people lack access to clean water, with diseases from dirty water killing more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. charity: water’s mission is to make safe drinking water available to everyone on earth, and to date, it has completed 38,113 water projects for 9.6 million people around the world.
The charity’s work is simple, but life-changing: providing access to clean water not only reduces disease, but also gives communities back the time they would have spent travelling to fetch water, time they can use to grow food, earn an income, and go to school – all of which fight poverty.
Rachel Dean, Product Business Manager, Sharp Europe, said: “We’re pleased to be able to make our first donation to charity: water to celebrate launching Skywell. Skywell is a special product that creates water in a new way, it automatically got us thinking about our privilege in having so much choice about where to get our water. We look forward to being able to share updates about the hand pump in Ethiopia as the project gets underway.”
Skywell features revolutionary technology to turn the surrounding air into fresh, clean drinking water, with no plumbing required. It serves both cold and hot water - for teas and coffees - at the touch of a button. As an alternative to traditional bottle-fed water coolers or plastic bottles, Skywell removes the need for water deliveries or single-use bottles, so can help to reduce a business’ environmental impact. Sharp is the first distributor of the Skywell water generator in Europe.
